Preparing for the birth is an exciting time that can often be filled with apprehension, fear, and vulnerability. It is normal to have many mixed emotions and fears that may come up about the impending birth experience. During this time, it is incredibly important to focus on self-care including: staying well nourished, taking walks, meditating. Be certain to listen to your body and get as much rest as you can. Relax and enjoy this final phase of your pregnancy! Once the baby comes the real work (and joy, of course) begins!
One of the best ways to prepare for your birth is to do some reading to self-educate. There is a wide range of reading material out there about pregnancy, birth and newborn care. The secret is to read books, watch films and talk to people who inspire you about the birthing process, encourage and support you in your decision to have a homebirth, and reduce your anxiety about your birth. If your current reading material or birth advisors are making you anxious, open your mind and heart and choose a book that YOU feel comfortable with.
