Newborn Care

We at Carrboro Midwifery are committed to making the transition for your newborn a gentle and calming entrance! we will take care of you for the first six weeks after the birth and your newborn for the first 4 weeks after the birth although we recommend that you seek a pediatrician within the first 48 hours after birth since most pediatricians recommend a three day follow-up visit for the newborn.  During the first 48 hours of birth we will be performing the following tests on your newborn.  Those tests include an injection of Vitamin K, a metabolic test called the “PKU” test and a hearing test.  These three tests are CDC recommended and standard of care in neonatal health and examination. You will also have the opportunity throughout your prenatal visit course to discuss any concerns, apprehensions and questions surrounding newborn testing.
