Prenatal Care

Sound prenatal health is the key to a successful pregnancy and birth experience. Many of the complications that arise during pregnancy can be traced back to the quality of prenatal health that a woman allows herself to have. During your pregnancy, we will emphasize nutrition, weight gain, exercise and vitamin intake as all these factors can help protect you from hypertension in pregnancy and gestational diabetes (both of which can predispose you to risking out of having a homebirth).

Your prenatal visits will take place at our office in Carrboro although the initial consultation visit will be in your home so that the midwife may assess your home situation to be sure it is safe for a homebirth (distance from nearest hospital, access to main roads, exit safety, etc).

The routine of prenatal visits will be monthly until 32 weeks, then every two weeks until 36 weeks then weekly until birth. Please expect each visit to last 30-60 minutes depending on questions, counseling and lab draws if needed.
