Waterbirth (with personal note from Deb)

What is it about water that draws us? Is it the warmth or the comfort? The soothing nature of submerging into a warm tub of water is appealing to pretty much all of us. Why would it not then be appealing to a newborn? Doesn’t it make sense that a newborn (who has spent its entire existence in the womb bathed in a pool of warm water) would have a gentler, easier transition while being born into water? While I was in practice as a nurse midwife in Vermont, I had the privilege of working at a small rural community hospital where we had a waterbirth rate of 25-30%. I have also personally experienced the benefits of waterbirth after giving birth to my youngest child in the water. Please consider opening your heart and mind to a waterbirth and go to the following link for FAQs and further information about this incredible option for gentle birthing.
